Are we doing a con for 2010?

Posted by gaijinusa on 2009.10.12 at 00:09
Hey Ausam crew. Are we doing a con for 2010? Also, we'd love your help at Imagicon. Gaijin is running the Anime events there.

Trivia Contest

July Monthly Prize Announced!Collapse )

The Trivia Contest will officially begin Monday, July 6, 2009, but to test the waters, we've decided to do a practice question.

At 2.30pm CST, a practice question will be posted to the Trivia Contest section of our forums. Of those who have answered correctly, the first person and a randomly selected person will win a Totoro Keychain. (If you can't get to the question right at 2.30pm, no worries; that's why we have the randomly selected winner. You still have a chance to win!) Winners will be announced tomorrow morning.

Hint! The practice question is related to the prize being given. You might want to spiff up on your Miyazaki knowledge.

Trivia Contest v2.0

There have been some problems realized with the original design of this contest, mostly on how to make sure everyone has the opportunity to answer the questions & win prizes. For this reason, there have been some major changes (and there may be some smaller revisions as we go).

This is how we're rolling v2.0:

What: AUSteAM-Con seems so far away~! So to help pass the time, we've come up with a fun idea to test your anime, manga, and Japanese knowledge--as well the chance to earn a few prizes on the way.

When: Starting Wednesday, July 1 at 1.00pm CST, the "official" rules will be posted along with the announcement of July's monthly prize.

Starting on Monday, July 6, 2009, a question will be posted on the AUSAM-Con forums each day (Monday - Friday) starting at 1.00pm CST and will be open for answering until 11.00pm CST. During this time period each day, everyone is welcome to find and answer the question to the best of their ability. All the people with the correct answer will have their name put in the "Weekly Hat." So, if you get three questions right during the week, then your name will be in the hat 3 times. If you get all five right, then it'll go into the hat 5 times. Get it?

Saturday morning (whenever I wake up, to be honest), a name will be chosen from the Weekly Hat to win the prize. (The prize, btw, will be announced on Monday, with the first of the question). All the other names will be thrown into the "Monthly Hat."

The monthly prize winner will be announced on the 1st of the next month. So, July's winner will be announced Saturday, August 1, 2009.

Winners will be contacted by one of the head staff for a shipping address so we can send the prizes to you. There is absolutely no charge for entering this contest, nor charge for S&H, and address won't be kept on file.

Where: This is what threw our original concept off. How this will end up working: Everything will be functioning primarily from the AUSAM-Con forums* and this will be the first place all the questions are posted. Both the Weekly and Monthly Hats have their own threads in the Trivia Contest thread, and this is where the winners will be posted (though they'll be contacted privately by headstaff too).

We will also, in a reasonable amount of time afterwards, Tweet** the question, load them up on our facebook group (discussion section*), and post it on livejournal. You are welcome to choose your favorite site to participate.

*We may send out mass group messages to the forums and facebook, to remind people who may not regularly visit these two sites/groups; but it will be infrequent. We don't want to bog down your emails with daily questions.

**Due to the size of some questions, some Twitter posts may be linked to the forums. Sorry, space limiations of Tweets can be a problem at times.

How: So you know the what, when, and where of the this thing, but what about the how? Well, as soon as we post the question, you're welcome to jump in and answer them. Again you have until 11pm of the same day to answer the question (posted at 1pm). You can @reply to us on twitter, or respond to threads/posts on facebook, livejournal, or the forums. It's your choice. Just make sure that you're available on any of them to be contacted, if you should win. Got it? Any questions? (If you do, feel free to respond to any of them by emailing us at ausamcon@gmail.com, or responding to these posts like you would answer a question--see directly above.)

So what will you be winning?: The last few days, prizes have been coming in the mail and we have a lot of really nice ones. We have figures, posters, t-shirts, DVDs, CDs, hats, keychains, bags, wallets, playing cards, rice bowls, and a ton more stuff.* The weekly prizes will be smaller than the big prize at the end of the month, but all of the prizes are excellent~!

*If you have anime, manga, or Japanese/Asian things you're looking to get rid of, we're always open for donations, both for the contest and for the AUSAM raffle (at AUSAM-Con). If you'd like to donate anything, feel free to contact the headstaff at ausamcon@gmail.com.

So don't forget the monthly prize announcement will be posted July 1, 2009 and the daily questions (for the weekly prize) will begin July 6, 2009. You'll have between 1pm CST to 11pm CST to answer the questions correctly.

If you are younger than 18, make sure you have your parents permission to participate. All questions and prizes are okay for all ages.
Only people living within the US are eligible to win. We DO NOT ship out of country.
Other rules and restrictions may apply and we reserve the right to change the rules as needed.
Some restrictions may apply for people who win multiple prizes in a row, in order to ensure that everyone has an opportunity to win something.

Trivia Contest

AUSteAM-Con seems so far away~! So to help pass the time, we've come up with a fun idea to test your anime, manga, and Japanese knowledge--as well the chance to earn a few prizes on the way.

Each week, starting in July, we'll pose 3 trivia questions. These questions will be posted on the forums, facebook, and twitter (with livejournal possibly being added to that list) every Monday at 1.00pm CST. The first person to answer all three questions correctly will win a prize. The top 5 people with all the correct answers will have their names entered into "the hat" for a prize given out at the end of the month. So not only do you have a chance of winning a weekly prize, by coming in with the top 5, you have a chance of winning a prize at the end of the month too.

So what will you be winning? Whatever we can find! Well, that's to say, fun stuff that we can find. It could be anything from a bento box, to a key chain, to t-shirts, to CDs, to figures...well, you see where we're going with this. Weekly prizes will be smaller than the big prize at the end of the month. The monthly prize will be posted by the first, and the weekly prizes will be posted up at the same time as the trivia questions.

This will officially begin Monday, July 6, 2009 @ 1.00pm. The July monthly prize will be posted up on Wednesday, July 1.

Don't forget that we'll be doing this on our forums, twitter, and facebook (with LJ being a possibility if we have enough interest), so pick your favorite social networking site to participate in.

Now that the festivities are over, I'd like to thank everyone who was able to help us make AUSAM-con possible, especially scottishfae and lias. They invested the most time and resources and organized the rest of us to make it all happen.

I would also like to thank everyone who loaned their books for the manga library- last I heard, we had over 700 volumes available for people to read from!

And finally I would like to thank all of the people who came to check out the con. I hope you had an excellent time, and with your help we can make things even bigger for 2009!

Final Countdown

Posted by scottishfae on 2007.12.12 at 22:19
As most people turn their attention to Christmas, I'd also like to remind everyone that today marks the 1 month count down for AUSAM-Con! For those attending, I hope it's an exciting reminder. For those helping put this event together--I hope it reminds you all to step up the efforts so we can pull this off nicely. Our website is currently a little behind, unfortunately, but you can find out up-to-date information on the forums. To help us gage who is going, we'd ask you to register on the forums anyway--though you certainly don't have to remain active.

Also, if you're interested in joining our Artist Alley or participating in the Cosplay Workshop, please email ausamcon@gmail.com for more information.

Pending Changes...

Posted by scottishfae on 2007.12.07 at 13:36
Do to continuing limitations of production, some of our programing may have to be cut. The Karaoke and V-A Karaoke is the first on the chopping block if a person cannot be found to man it and put it together. As it is, my staff is overtaxed and with only 1 month and 5 days left until the convention, this is something we can't put off any longer.

If you're interested in helping out with these, please contact me at ausamcon@gmail.com or reply to this post. Thanks.

2 Months & Counting!

The schedule is already up, as well as some previews of our events and information on our guests. You can also look for pre-registration for the cosplay contest, the artist alley, and the VIP lounge coming soon.

Thanks for everyone's interest and work thus far!
